My Mom's pc is acting up like a mad hooker at a prison rodeo. We had a power shortage, when she used her pc, there were 97 instances of firefox that would load up, mouse pointer and some windows would flicker. I ran SFC, she was then able to work on her computer. The next time she re-booted, 58+ shortcuts to "System" folder appeared on her desktop. You had to wait a good 10 minutes, let it do it's thing and close all programs that would open and she was then able to use it, t'il next reboot to go over it again. There was so many different and random programs that would open. It was pretty hilarious. Everything from MS Office to command prompt would open. Obviously the power shortage did some damage to the OS. But why can't I reformat and start fresh is a mystery.

Decided to try and a different hard drive I've had kicking around. Every now and then her PC was making unusual noise, I never heard it myself so can't really comment on it. When I reformatted, and it rebooted, it went back to the licensing agreement, tried again and it did the same thing. Windows won't load for some reason or another. I placed her hard drive back in and reformatted that one and it looped back to the licensing agreement after it re-booted.
I am getting nowhere fast. B4 I start replacing parts on a process of ellimination, I thought you wild and crazy brainy maniacs could lead me to the path of enlightment. :)
