Config.nt

Command.com
I ran a search for them and they all show up? so they aren't missing

I ran ATF cleaner, tried installing printer driver again and same thing, Hardware could not install!

You need an XP CD

Click start, my computer, underneath local disc C are the removeable drives

Load the XP CD and whichever drive in my computer changes to show it has the XP CD in, is the drive letter entered

So if the XP CD shows as being in D

expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt

becomes

expand D:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt

Same for the other two

Hey!
The first restore just refers you to the secon one. All the drivers are on #2 disk.

yorki,

If all you have is XP installation disks you might want to give e-machines a call. Or search your computer for a folder called i386. Without the cd the instructions may or may not work that are posting in that Microsoft Knowledge base with the Restore CD.

Tux,
I read the difference between the XP Original and the restore disk is the XP will write over the existing XP and likely keep your file and data , where the restore disk will wipe all your data off. Am I correct?

Sortof yes sortof no. The Windows XP disk is a disk that has just your operating system on it that is all. Your restore disk has all the other "stuff" that your computer manufacture installed on your system. The Restore disks also do not offer a repair installation. Which is the type of installation that will write over the existing XP and is probible that you will be able to keep your data.

Sleep what is that??? :) :)

I though I let you know whats happening, Im in the process of trying to find someone who has XP Software instead of using my restore disk. I rather do the XP and just write over the existing one, seems a lot simpler! I will keep in touch.

Thanks a million! :)
