I can't seem to understand why the RIAA are trying to fight windmills: why won't they close sites and not fine users? Isn't that a lot easier?

/methinks the RIAA are money-thirsty

You would think so, but it really boils down to be about money although some people are going to be seriously hurt financially with these big fines. Being made an example of what happens when you DL copyrighted material doesn't seem to be working yet.
