Windows wont read monitor

Intalling a Gateway 2000 desitination 31" monitor to my compaq presario. Monitor works at startup but blurry lines when desktop starts. windows wont read monitor in device manager and show as default monitor in safe mode

There could be a couple issues here.

First have you gone to your video card manufacturer and downloaded the latestet drivers?

Also does your video card support the resoultion your monitor is looking for?
