CHDSK..... not running.......

Hi.... :) :)

Can ANYONE..... Help???
My system starts up and the goes to CHKDSK.... but it doesn't run, it just stays at 0%........
I've tried all sorts. Unfortunately I do not have my OS disks with me. I have recently moved to China.... so am a little stuck as to how to proceed....

The best way to run check disk and defrag is in Safe Mode, that way fewer processes are running and writing to the disk. If you haven't run either in a long time, or never, they may take a long time. Before running them you should to a disk cleanup. What you can do is just start the process in the evening and let it run until the morning, it may even take longer than that. Something else you can do in conjunction is run the system file checker before or after.
