DSL connection not hooking up

HI
vista machine- new to this OS
There is a RED X in between the gateway and the Internet.
SBC spent 4 hrs hooking up DSL... they have two networks connecting and i lost one.. now i connect to just a local network-whatever that means.. and then NOTHING...
Any ideas?

If your modem is connected to the PC via a USB lead you need to install a driver from the modem manufacturer, and it must be a fairly new driver that's compatible with Vista or it won't work.

Thanks... that was not it though
FINALLY found the answer after nights of searching... it was a 3rd party firewall blocking my access.
I also learned that Yahoo.dsl has not been very stable on vista, and when I talked to tech support they said that 'thier technicians are dilgently working on a fix'
