I have an interesting problem on my wife's computer. She recently updated her McAffee that comes free with our internet and after that, any time she tried to access the internet the computer would reboot. I went in and, figuring it was McAffee, tried to remove it by Add / Remove programs. When I tried to access the control panel the computer rebooted again. I grabbed my trusty OS disk and tried doing a repair with no effect on the problem. I went into safemode and removed McAffee that way, rebooted and tried again. Same thing. Anyone have an idea on what to try next? I really don't want to have to format and reinstall if I don't absolutley have to. The computer specs are:

AMD Athalon 2000+
512 MB memory
GeForce FX 5700
Sound Blaster Live Sound Card

Any help would be greatly apprecaited as it is also the PC my daughter uses for her school work.

If you go into Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer

Select one of the titles on the left and look for any entries on the right that has a red X next to it around the time the computer reboots. Check on all titles on the left.

Also if you find some, double click the entry on the right and use the copy button to paste them in here.

Thanks

I truly believe your assumptions about Mcafee are correct. What I would do is go ahead and unistall Mcafee again then you can check the logs before you reinstall it. Follow the instructions on this Link

make sure you do all the steps, if you have problems let me know.

Update: I found out something interesting. It isn't that every program causes the computer to reboot. I can use email, World of Warcraft and a couple of others but if I try to click on IE or Control Panel it reboots. Just thought I would add that info.

Another update: My wife decided that having her computer up and running was more important than not doing a system wipe so thanks for all the help but I just wiped the HDD and reinstalled. You can close this issue.

In safe mode:

Right click MY COMPUTER, choose PROPERTIES, choose ADVANCED, choose the SETTINGS button in the Startup And RECOVERY section, and uncheck AUTOMATICALLY RESTART. Click APPLY and OK.

Now reboot. This will result in the BSOD error...report the STOP ERROR and any parameters.
