Okay I am recently using my old dell insperion 8100,
I have a wireless internet connection and sadly the laptop is to old to have wireless,
I got a plug in wireless USB, but it says it isn't working to its full advantage...
So I got a LAN cable from the router upstairs to downstairs
sadly as it's old, and on my broken laptop it automaticly connected
can someone please tell me the step to step on getting the LAN connection to work?

Hi Welcome to Geeks to Go.
What Os do you have running on this machine? Go to the control panel system then click on device manager. Click on network adapters. Are there any yellow triangles there? make sure that your Ethernet card is enabled. To do this right click on the device in device manager and make sure that disable is your option not enable.
