hi welcome to geekstogo, I am not on edubuntu so I am not sure if it is the same for you as for me on kubuntu but if no one replies quickly here I would search for the edubuntu forum(which I couldn't find googling for you now), anyway I am on your case

Sorry, I didn't get much joy with my post, I have the feeling that edubuntu is gnome too and therefore suggest trying the ubuntu forum but I feel that there is not much point being on a distro where there is no support forum so I suggest changing to one that has especially where you want to get 3D desktops and other advanced stuff, also check out if there is a LUG(linux user group) in your area, and if you change distros, remember you need four things: a burning program, the distro, howto videos, and the support forum of that distro, - since without these it is hard whereas with these you' get there, thanks

try fedora, easy to install and the new version (Fedora8) is released on Thursday. Easy to use, uses Gnome, yum, and RPM packages (Ubuntu uses DEB)

If you've gotten used to Edubuntu i would suggest not switching, it is a big switch, Fedora is Red-Hat base which is RPM, Ubuntu is Debian based which is DEB.
