I took those steps, save the HijackThis log, before coming to you. You would suggest I do it again and before pursuing Mr. Freezes suggestions? Thanks again.

sirvice,

Try using IE with no addons for a while. This can be accessed from Start, accessories, system tools. For a while only use IE with addons when needed let me know how performance improves.

Thank you again. I tried all the steps prior to the HijackThis log (I did this while I waited for you response) and not one piece of spyware, adware or virus was found (with the exception of what Panda ActiveScan placed on my computer as my anti virus program Avira AntiVir alerted me to it during the Panda installation process), not one thing! Per your most recent instruction, I am now running IE withOUT the add-ons. I will report back. Thanks again.

I hope that what I'm adding is relevant to this discussion.

I am experiencing the same problem only with IE7 (hangs with 100% cpu usage) so I would be very interested in what you all find out.

BTW, this started happening after I installed SP2 and 67 updates. It ran fine before that. :)

Never mind! I disabled the Yahoo toolbar and it now runs perfectly. Thanks.

HI guys,

If you are really fed up with the internet explorer in windows xp/win7/win2003/2008, thats takes 100% of the cpu. check with tools like process explorer to check any hidden programs run under IE exe. if that all works fine & still u have [bleep] when open IE, just open control panel -- internet options---programs-- manage addons--- disable or the addons & try. it will work

Regards
Abhilash
