I have two XP Home machines and until recently had Norton AV on both and print/file sharing set up so that I could print onto Machine #2 from Machine #1. I have a Linksys wireless router on a low level DSL (non-static IPs) but both machines are hard patched into the router.

Yesterday I removed Norton from Machine #2 and installed AVG (purchased version). Since we don't have a 'domain' (just a workgroup set up), I selected single computer connected to internet during set up.

Now I can't print from Machine #1 (which still has Norton) to Machine #2. I've tried resetting up sharing. I've tried re-adding a printer. Nothing works.

AVG's tech support isn't responding to my question -- I've contacted them twice via their form but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Thanks but I already ran it and Norton is definitely off the system. This has something to do with the configuration of AVG but I can't figure out what I have to change. I suspect it's something to do with the firewall but I'm hesitant to turn off the firewall (even though I do have a hardware firewall as well with the Linksys router).

FYI, what I have is the AVG Internet Security Home Edition = it includes the AV, Spyware, etc.

Thanks in advance - I'm pulling my hair out and STILL AVG hasn't responded to my request for tech support.

Local network is not accessible after installing AVG Plus Firewall Edition

If you have installed the AVG Plus Firewall Edition, ran the Automatic configuration wizard and then, after the computer has restarted, your local network is not accessible, please check the following configuration:
AVG Control Center->AVG Firewall->Configure->System tab->"Microsoft file sharing and printing"
This application´s default setting is "Block" (for security reasons). If your local network is not accessible or you cannot print on network printers, please re-configure this option to "Allow" (choose "Microsoft file sharing and printing"->click on "Edit rule" button->click on "Edit rule" button)



The correct configuration of the Microsoft file sharing and printing service is very important for your computer's security. Because of this, we recommend that you carefully consider its configuration. We also recommend that you only allow the Microsoft file sharing and printing service for IP addresses of computers that must use this service with your computer, or only for your local network. You can set up your local network in the AVG Firewall configuration as:

* range of secure IP addresses connected to your local network
* IP address/Mask
* one IP address

You'd mentioned locking it down to just recognize certain IPs. I'm not sure how I do that plus I don't have static IP addresses because we're on a low level DSL. How do I do this?

Since your behind a router, you don't really have to do this. The steps involved are rather lengthy.
