What size PSU should I be looking at for future plans of a Intel core 2 duo and a pci-express video card and maybe 2-4 gb of DDR2?

Depends on the card. If you get a Nvidia 8800GTS you will need a crap load of power. If you plan to use the PSU for a kick [bleep] computer in your next built I might get a 650W to be safe. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817371001

IMO Antec is your best bet. There have awesome reliability, Very high efficiency (not wasting energy for the electric bill), and a great bang for your buck because they do not have shinny paint jobs or special cable systems.

BTW, I have that exact 650W Antec so you can see by my system specs it has enough power.

I'm hesitant to spend too much on the video card since AGP is outdated with PCI-E

Exactly. I would suggest that you stay away from AGP. Just plan out your next computer and forget the AGP. It will hold you back and your money will be wasted. I don't even know why they still keep making AGP cards. It is a scam.

How long should a PSU last before it needs to be replaced? I only ask because if I buy a larger PSu now and get lazy and don't build a new comp for a while...first kid coming in Feb.

They can last a while. The main thing I would worry about is that as newer technologies come out they are more and more likely to consume more energy. So if you wait 2 years you may need more power to run the system because the technology of the future will consume more and more energy.

Like a year or two ago 650W was overkill for a PSU.

PS: Congrats! :)

I am not familiar with that game. Is it like Oblivion or WoW?

Well I am starting to think that you may not need a powerful 8800GTS. The game does not seem that intensive. List some of the other games that you plan to play, preferably the ones that are the most rigorous.

PS: You can edit your posts because all of the posts you are making are starting to confuse me.
