i have 2 identical flash drives (model number "sony-usm4gj(b)")

one of them worked fine when i plugged it in, windows installed the drivers, everything was great

a few weeks later, i plug in the second. during the driver installation, i cancelled halfway thru, and the pop-up window said "Installation Cancelled" and i clicked close.

now when i plug the second drive in (the aborted installation one) windows does a stuttering triple beep sound and nothing comes up; no drive in my computer, no safely remove device icon, nothing, and yet windows still makes the "device remove sound"

how can i fix this?

Well first thing to do is to find out if it's a problem with the computer or with that flash drive... Try the flash drive in another system... if it doesn't work you may have a dead drive. IF it does then the first thing would be to check device manager and see if you have any exclamation points ( yellow ) if so and they seem to apply to the usb drive try removing them and restart the computer.

i plugged it into an old compaq laptop and it worked fine. then, back in my computer, it reinstalled the drivers and now it works.

my guess is that the driver installation in the compaq straightened out the mess up the aborted installation in my pc
