no device manager.. sound loss of icons

hi guys, hope you can help..
think ive picked up a virus, ive lost icons from my desktop, media players cannot find any sound device. and the device manager is blank.

please help guys.

Hi sls...

You may indeed have a virus or some form of malware, but it also sounds like the Plug and Play service has been stopped or disabled.

Click Start, then Run, type services.msc and click "Ok". Locate "Plug and Play" in the list of services and double click on it. The service should show as "Started" with a Startup Type of "Automatic". If it's not, set the Startup Type to "Automatic", then "Start" the service...see if the Device Manager is populated again and if the Sound Device is back.

thanks wannabee tried that but didnt work....are all those applications ment to be automatic?? cause lots are either disabled or manuel. when tring to turn it to auto it pops ups a with a warning : config manager. plug and play service or another required service is not availible.


also one other problem is that i cant update or install some programs i.e itunes.
i used hijack this maybe i hope the results help..
