i was planning to do an xp repair thingy, and i was getting ready to start, and i thought id make sure i have the right product key.
so i downloaded that magic jellybean app, and the code i got ended 8cft3 another program also gave me this code.
But, the code on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop ends k29m8.
Then i tried the method where you searched for the unattend.txt file (on the setup disc) that had a product key at the bottom.

but all the codes i got were different(apart from the programs that i downloaded, they gave me the same code)
so i want to know what code it is that i need to use, and why the codes are different.

p.s. if its important im using a dell inspiron 6000 oem media centre disc. which came preinstalled on my inspiron 6000.
this computer was second hand bought off of ebay, and the computer seemed to have had xp mce reinstalled.

I would suspect that the laptop was taken in for service at 1 point and the repair shop loaded their software with their key. That is why you have a mismatch.

That would mean that the product key on your setup disk should be the proper one. Does it match the side of the case?

no none of the codes match up.
but the disc i got the code from was the original dell disc not a store disc.
so should i use the codes i got from jellybean?.

Using the Dell CDs contain Dell's own VLK which means that it will never match the licence on the side of the case. This is usually (thought not always) the case with most branded computers that you run JellyBean on - the key you get does not match the one on the side of the case. The one you have now does not require activation until you change the hardware. The one on the side of the case will always require telephone activation.
