I am unable to access Yahoo and update any Windows or Microsoft items. I thought at first my laptop was infected but after a week of help from racenutalways he assured me my computer was not infected and refered me to this post. When I try to access Yahoo or Windows update the computer sits there for 2 minutes and then comes up with an error that says web page can not be found.

have you looked in your internet options/advanced tab/see if show friendly urls is checked...if not check it.../and check if http 1.1 is also checked/click ok /click ok to close

have you ever cleaned your temporary internet files

Yes I have used ATF Cleaner. When I went to internet options and checked the items you instructed me to check I could not find show friendly URLS, and the http 1.1 was checked.

check the ones that dont require permission to run

start/control panel/internet options/programs tab/manage add ons/enable all/click ok

I think I should tell you if you haven't figured out by now I'm a so-so computer person. When they say ping, I'm not sure what they are talking about. I went to the link and downloaded the things in the article and restarted the computer. I do want to add that as far as getting to other search engines I can go to Google or others, just not yahoo and no matter what I can't get downloads from Windows or Microsoft. I did check the add-ons. I know I'm not much help but I'm trying!!!!!

are you getting a error when you try windows update

when you say yahoo do you mean yahoo.com...yahoo mail..or yahoo messenger

make sure you have Java installed and activated. You can get the latest JVM from sun.com. If that doesn't help, make sure you delete all Yahoo cookies. This could be caused by a corrupted cookie.

I am trying to access Yahoo.com and yes I get an error with windows update. I am including the error message I get. I updated Java.



Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

try to add yahoo to the trusted sites

-Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
-Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
-Click the Security tab, and then click Trusted Sites.
-Click Sites, and then click to clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box.
-In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type each of the following addresses, and click Add after each address:
www.yahoo.com

Click OK to close all Internet Options windows.
