Hello there.

Whilst on holiday, some friends have been using my computer. They SAY that they were not doing anything untoward, or downloading dodgy stuff etc! however....

when i click on a google search result, i get directed to some advertising site. for each result, this happens 2 times, then on the third click i get to where i want to go.

i have run awg spyware and virus programmes, and also panda activescan which have picked up some things.

when i try to do a checkdisk, it comes up straight away with a message saying 'finished - the disk is clean' suggesting that something is bypassing the checkdisk from actually inspecting the files

on looking through other threads, it seems that my problem is similar to other peoples, but also different :)

please see below hijackthis log.

thank you in advance for yoru help!

richard.

We appear to be getting somewhere, as chkdsk appeared to be successfully carried out when the computer was restarted.

Please see logfiles below.

Please re-open Hijackthis and place a check mark next to these entries listed below:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Now click on Fix checked and then close Hijackthis.
====================================
Now double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
then choose the Cleanup tab at the top.
let that script run even if your antivirus tries to block it
Reboot if asked
=================
Then I will need you to reset your System Restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access.
You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.Click on *Start
Right-click *My Computer
Click *Properties
Click the *System Restore tab
Check *Turn off System Restore
Click *Apply, and then click *OK.
2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.Click on *Start
Right-click *My Computer
Click *Properties
*UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*
Check *Turn on System Restore
Click *Apply, and then click *OK.
