I am going to say this one last time. I am not going to justify every single piece of advice I give. If a person needs clarification, fine. But because you don't agree with something, why should I bother?

He said he tried all the other things, and now what. So I say new card. You don't like it, well what do you want? A letter of appology?

I have the exact same problem as the original post:

I have a WDmaud virus which causes any web searches to replaces your search page with a spam page. Its impossible to get rid of this virus, and none of the virus protectors work. WDmaud is also a system file, so it copies itself every time you try to delete it. Somehow its corrupt and has a trojan attached to it. Anyways, as I followed someone's advice on a forum to empty the registry key - I ended up with no sound. I've tried to reinstall any sound drivers and I can hear sound from my video player, but nothing at all from any webpages.

I've followed all advice on here to resolve this but it still doesn't solve my problem and I still hear no sounds from videoclips or audio clips from web pages. I run firefox and have tried to reinstall it. That doesn't work either.

I've installed the codec pack someone recommended, and restarted. That didn't help.

I have a Dell-[bleep] Dimensions and have tried to reinstall all Dell audio drivers. That didn't work.
As usual Dell has the worse service support on the planet. The self-serve driver page doesn't do anything. You download the drivers but when you actually try to install them, for every driver you try to install you only get the message "There are no drivers to install. Find your driver to install it" or similar. In other words: the dell website offers no help. Contacting support is a joke since Dell has never understood the meaning of the word "support". They just want to sell people their computers and after that, will not respond to anything else.

So what can I do to resolve this? I can't play news videos, youtube, music video's, instructional videos, - nothing. There's no sound.

I'm still trying this step-by-step. This is youtube advice. Perhaps it will help someone who has the same issues:

Video Player Issues: Can't hear audio

To make sure that you hear sound while watching videos, please try the following:

* Adjust the volume control on your computer and speakers.
* Adjust the volume control located in the lower right corner of the YouTube Video Player.
* Ensure that the volume is up on other video players, such as Quicktime, Real Player, or Windows Media player, as this might affect the video player sound.

If these steps don't correct the issue, and you still have no sound when playing the video, you may want to try the steps below.

For Mac users:

1. Open "Applications" > "Utilities" > "Audio MIDI Setup"
2. Check the properties for "Built In Output". Make sure it's set to 44.1 KHz.

For PC users:

1. Click "Start".
2. Select "Run".
3. Type: sndvol32
4. Click "OK".
5. Make sure the following are not muted and the volume is up for "Volume Control" and "Wave".

Make sure you have your sound card selected as the Default device:

1. Click "Start".
2. Select "Control Panel".
3. Open the "Sound and Audio Devices" icon.
4. Click the "Audio" Tab.
5. Under "Sound playback" set the Default device to your sound card not your webcam/modem.
6. Click "OK"

If you're still having trouble, check to see if your system meets these requirements for running the video player:

1. Macromedia Flash Player 7.0+ plug-in
2. Windows 2000 or higher with latest updates installed
3. Mac OS X 10.3 or higher
4. Firefox 1.1+, Internet Explorer 5.0+, or Safari 1.0+
5. Broadband connection with 500+ Kbps

Videos on YouTube are streamed through an Adobe Flash player. For the best viewing experience, we suggest you install the latest version of Adobe Flash after removing any old versions you've installed.

Please completely uninstall Flash before reinstalling the latest version.

To uninstall Flash, please follow Adobe's instructions, listed here.

Then, restart your computer and follow Adobe's instructions for reinstalling Flash, listed here.

If your system meets all the requirements, but the video player still isn't working properly, please try troubleshooting with a different browser. Remember to test the audio on multiple videos!

If you can't hear sound within videos embedded on other websites or blogs,
your computer may be blocking third-party Flash content. To correct this, follow the steps below:

1. Visit http://www.macromedi..._manager03.html
2. The Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager should display.
3. Check the box labeled: "Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer."
4. To ensure the check sticks please click one of the tabs at the top of that box and then click back to the (Global Storage Settings Panel). The box should still be checked.
5. Once this is complete, close all browser windows and try playing an embedded video.

Please be advised that this action stores a Flash cookie on your computer. Flash enables this by default upon install.

If this step doesn't help, please check your Antivirus and Firewall software to see if you're blocking third-party Flash content.
