Cannot remove Adobe and cannot download Adcrobat or Adobe reader. Cannot read PDF files . Afraid to go into Registry and use Windows Install Clean up Utility, as I really don't understand what to do and could mess up the Registry. Hope someone has a solution for this

Hello, a few more details may be useful. What errors are you receiving, OS being used, Adobe Reader/Acrobat version?

Incase my message did not go through, the following should correct your error that you were having, it was found on Adobe's support site, or view the directions directly on adobe's site here - http://kb.adobe.com/...n...4&sliceId=2 :

Do one of more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Use the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove corrupted registry entries.
Warning: The Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility only removes registry entries created by the application installer. Files and other registry entries for the application are not removed by this utility and could cause inadvertent effects on the system if not removed. If you use this utility, you may have to reinstall other programs that use MSI (Microsoft Installer). Caution is advised. Read information about the Microsoft Windows CleanUp Utility.

Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from http://download.micr...1bd/msicuu2.exe
Download the Microsoft Windows CleanUp Utility.
Save the utility to your desktop.
Double-click the msicuu2.exe file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Identify the version of Acrobat or Reader that is causing the issue and correctly remove it from the system using the following steps.
Note: Acrobat or Reader will attempt to remove earlier versions of Acrobat or Reader if they reside on the machine. When the removal cannot complete, an error message is typically displayed. In this case, you should attempt to remove the earlier version of Acrobat or Reader using Add/Remove Programs in order to determine if the earlier version is the source of the error. Proceed to Solution 2 to resolve this issue.

If the error is generated by Acrobat or Reader 8.0, do the following:
Remove all updates that do not generate an error message.
Choose Start > Program > Windows Install Clean Up to start the Windows Install Clean Up utility.
Select the current version of Acrobat and choose Remove.
Reinstall the current version of Acrobat.
Apply all updates.
If the error is generated when an earlier version of Acrobat or Adobe Reader prevents the installation of the current version of Acrobat or Adobe Reader:

Important : These steps require the installation media and serial number for both versions of Acrobat. It is important to remove the previous version with the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility and then reinstall that application and correctly remove it from your system. This process removes all extra information from the operating system that may be left by the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

Remove all updates that do not generate an error message.
Choose Start > Programs > Windows Installer Clean Up to start the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility.
Select the previous version of the application and choose Remove.
Reinstall the previous version of the application.
Remove the previous version of Acrobat or Reader using Add/Remove Programs, and then restart your computer.
Install the current version of Acrobat or Reader.
Apply all updates.
Solution 2: Remove the Acrobat or Reader Windows Installer registry key.
Disclaimer: The Windows registry contains information critical to your computer and applications. Adobe does not provide support for problems that arise from improper modification of the registry. Adobe recommends you have experience editing system files before you modify the registry. Make sure to back up the registry before modifying it. For more information on the Windows Registry Editor, refer to your Windows User Guide or contact Microsoft Technical Support.

Important: Verify that the correct registry key is selected. When viewing a path of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features\68AB67CA330100007706000000000030, only the 68AB67CA330100007706000000000030 key should be selected. If the name does not match exactly, do not select the item.

Choose Start > Run.
In the Open box, type regedit and then click OK.
In the Registry Editor, select the appropriate Acrobat registry key:
For the Retail, Volume, and Tryout versions of Acrobat 8.x Professional remove:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Installer\Products\68AB67CA330100007706000000000030

For the Retail version of Acrobat 8.x Standard remove:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{AC76BA86-1033-0000-BA7E-000000000003}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Features\68AB67CA33010000ABE7000000000030

For Reader 8.0.0 remove:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Features\68AB67CA7DA73301B7448A0000000020

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\68AB67CA7DA73301B7448A0000000020

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\68AB67CA7DA73301B7448A0000000020

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-A80000000002}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Reader

Click Edit > Delete.
Select Yes when prompted to confirm the deletion.
Repeat steps 3-5 on the remainder of the registry keys and any listed updates that have been applied.
Exit Registry Editor.
