Looking at the Process Explorer screenshot, you killed the Print Spooler (spoolsv) and Windows Management Instrumentation. While the former is required only for printing, the later (WMI) is quite important to the system. The Elder Geek recommends that it be left running:
http://www.theelderg...rumentation.htmI suspect that the improvement you noticed was due to simply reducing the overall system load at the time. There are likely better candidates for termination. My explorer.exe is right now happly running at 23.6k with no problems. More important is CPU time for processes.
Explorer is actually quite robust, but it is a user process and has to compete for resources. If in fact, you are having memory limitation problems, setting the page file to 'System managed size" usually helps.
