I followed these instructions as part of prep for a spyawre check.
Is there any way to re-capture sytem restore points once they have been flushed?

The best way to solve my initial problem was probably to restore.

Flush All Previous System Restore Points:
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
Click the More Options tab, and then under System Restore, click Clean up.
Click Yes to remove all but the most recent restore point. Click OK, click Yes to proceed with this action, and then click OK
.

Flushing the restore points is another way of describing how to delete them.
Once these have been deleted, there is no way back.
