from the bye-now dept

theodp writes "Demonstrating its commitment to high-quality U.S. patents, Microsoft has submitted a just-published patent application to the USPTO for Automatic Goodbye Messages. By automatically sending messages like 'Have a great afternoon!', 'Sorry, I have got to go!', 'Have a terrific day!', 'Ciao, Harry!', or even a simple 'Bye!' at the end of an IM session, Microsoft explains, one avoids insulting a converser with whom a conversation is ended. Hopefully the USPTO will give this one the quick buh-bye it deserves."

I hope this leads to a conflict between AOL and Microsoft.
AOL was a nightmare for me and my family. Well for me anyway. Who actually reads the TOS?

:) ! This can make me laugh all day at that stupid Microsoft...

Patenting WORDS? Man, I think they've worked overly hard and now their brain's are busting without any more ideas...

Are you kidding me? Gmail is the best email there is, I never use my ISP email, I didn't even log into it once...

You've got to admit they're the best, and there's no alternative to Gmail! I've never tried to refrain from using Gmail! :)
