My system initially would not boot. It was stuck in a loop of going to the safe mode menu, but anything selected there would just reboot the system and return back to the safe mode menu.

I tried an XP SP2 repair install using the XP CD, but it did not complete. It now goes to the Safe Mode Screen and gives an error message stating that Windows XP Setup cannot run in safe mode and then restarts itself. It continually runs in this loop.

Any suggestions?

Boot using your Windows CD and select the recovery console.

From the recover console type: CHKDSK /R

Let it run completly (sometimes can take an hour or more).

Let us know if chkdsk solves your issue.
