i downloaded the official drivers for my 945GM chipset and tried installing them. it'll go into a black screen with a blinking cursor (like a DOS prompt cursor),
then go back into windows with a pop-up that says "an unkown error has occurred. setup will now exit."

i'm running windows vista home premium 32-bit. and yes, i downloaded the drivers specifically for vista HP 32-bit. any help please?

If Vista is working okay without the update just leave it. Don't update anything without good reason. You shouldn't assume that a newer driver is going to better than the one you already have.
