I am running XP Pro and this has been going on for as long as I can remember. When I right click the task bar and go to properties>customize and tell it to always hide the two icons for my wireless, hit ok and they hide fine. Problem is next time I boot, they will randomly come back up, and it will be set back to hide when inactive. Sometimes it is just one, sometimes both. Doesn't affect usability at all, just kind of annoying. Is this just some kind of coding thing, where the actual name of the icon changes so it doesnt remember my settings or something in windows? Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

The Notification Area (System Tray) has always been a weak spot in XP. There are many suggested ways to correct it's misbehaviour, but sooner or later we almost all resort to Kelly's tool: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm

In my experience, the only sure way to avoid difficulties is to have everything shown all the time.
Uncheck "Hide Inactive icons."
Since many of us don't want to do that--Taskbar Plus.
