UPdate on no video sound!

I got the sound to work on video but only after loading WinDVD7. IO noticed that it installed a DVD Audio driver. Why don't the other programs install a DVD Audio Driver. After loading WinDVD I can play a movie with sound. If anyone has experienced this let me know. Thanks

What software did use to play DVD-video before installing WinDVD?
