Hotmail Login Problem

I have been unable to sign into my hotmail live account as it comes up with error message 80048823 saying that my email address and/or password is incorrect. I have not typed my email addres or password incorrectly, neither have I changed my password recently. I am unable to reset my password as I have had the account so long my alternate email address is now inactive and have forgotten my secret answer!!

I have recently been receiving emails asking me to change my password, however, I have ignored these as felt there was no need- will hotmail have changed my password without informing me?

Is there anyway round this problem. or is it just a temporary glitch?
