Spring cleaning has arrived and I'm doing a tune up on my computer.. defrag/spyware/antivirus and all and I've ran Spybot as well as Lavasoft and they've each pulled up spyware. Instructing me to reboot and let it run again before any of the spyware has "woken up". I still get random IE popups and the only thing of suspicion is a program called qkqrm.exe which, I can't find anything online about it and the aformentioned programs don't find anything wrong with it. So I was wondering if someone could look at this log and tell me anything that catches your eye? It's be greatly appreciated :tazz:

one thing I would recommend is going to http://www.download.com and do a search for counterspy. download it its a 15 day trial version of it. See if it finds anything.

Thanks, I'll try that.. if anyone else has any ideas throw em out. I've never had this problem. Even on my old computer which was THE workhorse of the household.

Counterspy probably did help you out alot. Sorry I didnt realize I had to be staff to give advice. Not another word from me I guess. Just trying to be friendly and help others out. Not another peep from me. How do I do this test that insures I wont mess anyones computer up? I feel confident I can pass it. :tazz:

There is no one "test" to become a staff member. It is a training process where trainees go through practice logs and are instructed on the best ways to find and fix infections.

I posted a link above to Geek U.

Under my name you will notice a Geeks To Go STAFF logo. That is how you can tell Geeks to Go staff from other members.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [etbrun] C:\windows\system32\elitemia32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2s7O37e] wpncoina.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoLoader2Foy1JbkWYaM] "C:\WINDOWS\System32\wpncoina.exe" /HideDir /HideUninstall /PC="CP.SAV" /ShowLegalNote="nonbranded"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [qkqr] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\qkqr\qkqrm.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\windows\system32\elitemia32.exe
C:\windows\system32\wpncoina.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\qkqr\qkqrm.exe

Folders and files with a tilde (~), means that there is a file/folder that starts with the six characters in front of the tilde, note that there may be spaces in the name. If there are more than one, please report them back and do not delete!

After that, Reboot.

After you reboot, please post a fresh HiJackThis log.

Try not to get ahead of me. The more things you try to fix on your own, the more potential problems for both of us down the road. msconfig is nothing more than a band aid. It should not be used to fix anything. By turning things off in msconfig, you are hiding the real infection from me in your HJT log.

Please go through my directions and do the things there. After that and before you post your new HJT log, please go into msconfig and turn everything back ON in there. Then reboot and post a fresh HiJackThis log so that I can see if we missed anything.
