Hey guys.

I had this exact same problem, sound working on all non-internet based programs etc.
I just got a new computer and it came with an in-built soundcard but I assume my solution will work for those with soundcards too.
Make sure you are at the latest driver and presuming your audio comes with a program to fiddle with the channels (2chan, 5.1 surround etc) make sure you have the correct channeling set for your speakers.
Mine is a 5.1 channel set, but because I had some misdirection by other programs I had it set to 6 channel. Beyond my knowing, internet browsers either use low channels or have the need for you speakers to be on there cooperative channels (not sure which one is the right answer)
So by returning my channels to 5.1 and fiddling with the outputs my speakers were working and sound on the internet worked again also.

Hope thats a bit of help for anyone having trouble.

I had this problem occur, strangely, on TWO different computers at the same time.

Here is what fixed it for me....on BOTH computers....

1. Go to Control Panel
2. You should see an icon for Quicktime. Double click it.
3. Choose the 'File Types' tab.
4. Put a check in the first box labelled "Streaming - Streaming movies"
5. Restart your computer.

You should now get a Windows loading system sound.

Visit YouTube and try watching any random video. There may not be sound in the first 3 seconds, but it will come in.

3. Now save the notepad file on the desktop with the name "missing.reg" (without quotation marks).
4. Open the desktop, right-click on the file and select Merge.
5. If you wish, you can now delete the file from the desktop.

Alright the problem is really the mapping of wavemapper in Windows registry as reported by one member of the forum. All you need to do is to open registry editor by going to Start menu, Run, typing regedit and then Enter. After that, in the registry editor, walk yourself through the tree in the left pane, till you reach

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

And then on the right pane, right click and click on New, select String value, enter "wavemapper" (without quots of course), ENTER, type "msacm32.drv", ENTER.

Close the editor. No need to restart. Video on Google and YouTube et al would work fine now.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! This has been a major thorn in my side for quite some time now. This solution worked like a charm, now if only I could figure out how it got screwed up in the first place...

I fought the no flash/internet sound thing for 6 months! and all the "check your mute button" or "reload drivers" posts never helped. What I eventually found was that under my start/programs list I had two versions of Internet Explorer... One standard / and on that listed as Internet Explorer (64 bit) With the standard IE which opened as the default with most links, I had NO Flash/ You Tube sounds, yet all others windows sounds worked fine... BUT When I open Internet Flash/ YouTube videos with IE 64 BIT all the world is wonderful again !!! ALL Sounds work perfect! now why doesn't Mircosoft or Adobe know this and put that on their support pages?? I have been looking for a solutions for 6 months!! Anyway hope this helps.. good luck
