My computer comes on, but it doesn't do anything. It just shows a black screen. I was wondering whether I should try to buy a recovery disk or the XP Home Edition Upgrade.

Neither, this is most likely a hardware issue.

When you press the power button do the lights come on and the fans spin or does it do nothing at all?
