prior to sp2 my computer was fine. no driver or hardware conflicts.
but as soon as i update to sp2, my computer goes into this endless cycle of rebooting during the windows loading stage.

i posted this earlier and was given a weblink by "keith" which instructed me to re-install kernel32.dll and the steps on how to do so which i followed. unfortunately it didnt solve the problem.

prior to the sp2 install i had turned off system restore, so i cant roll back thru safe mode (to prior sp1) stages.

i have reformated numerous times, and made sure that all hardware and drivers was correctly installed but ive had no luck. i get all the prior microsoft updates fine. but as soon as i update to sp2 the problem begins.

i also notice that my computer will not allow me to access "safe mode with networking" when i attempt to access it, it automatically reboots.

if you have encountered this problem or know how to fix it please help. this is the third week my rig remains idle and unused

First thing I would do is uninstall SP2 Go HERE and follow the directions under use Recovery console. After you uninstall SP2 go HERE and download an antivirus program if you dont have one and also use the anti-spyware programs it recommends. then try to reinstall sp2 and you should be free of problems let me know if you need any help. I know for a fact a type of spyware called tv media causes a reboot cycle to just keep looping like that when you install sp2. let me know how it goes.

What is your hardware setup? What kind of hardware you running? Give me a system setup could be a driver conflict? Do you install other applications before installing sp2? If so I would try installing sp2 prior to installing anything else on your machine!

usually i finish hardware installation prior to the sp2 install (as soon as i put all the components together i then, install the drivers, and then the updates, and then sp2)

but for this rig i kept hardware at a minimum.

9600aiw w/ latest drivers


asus k8v-mx athlon 64 3000+
1gb of ram
80gb hard drive
16x dvd-/+rw

im about 99.9% sure it isnt a virus because everytime ive installed sp2 its been right after a reformat.

besides windows updates the only other install that i conduct prior to sp2 is ad-awareSE.

i update ad-aware via the web, disable system restore and run it.
nonetheless i will try the sp2 removal (i wasnt able to do so in safe mode with system restore off) and then install, update and run avast.

Nonetheless please keep the suggestions coming. ^_^
i need all the help i can get.

In what order did you install the drivers?

Disable the onboard NIC...does it boot then?

In safe mode, right click MYCOMPUTER, choose PROPERTIES< ADVANCED > STARTUP AND RECOVERY, Settings button, UNCHECK AUTOMATICALLY RESTART so we can see the STOP error

before i begin id like to thank you guys for helping me.

and now the problem.

in order for me to turn on system restore as well as uncheck "automatically restart" i had to reformat the disk again. (i had system restore disabled prior to the sp2 install)

this time i only installed anything that was necesarry. video card drivers (from ati and omega). network card drivers (mobo cd). i then disabled the multimedia controller (instead of installing the drivers for it). i installed and downloaded nothing except from the windows update all the way to sp2.

i still cant get passed the windows bootup stage.
nonetheless a bsod popped up and here is what it said

"problem has been detected..."

i have no idea what hyperion drivers are. unless its part of windows update, i dont believe i did.

what are they? and must i restore back to prior sp2 stages to install them?

the 4 in 1 drivers are your system drivers, which are essential for memory and disk operations--this assumes that motherboard uses the via chipset...do you have a website for that motherboard, because it is not listed on the asus site I was looking at (north america)

I do not think the problem you listed in your second post....though it could be related, i suppose.

yes it does use a via chipset.

there are a series of k8v motherboards. but no mx.
does it matter which 4inOne set of drivers i use from the k8v section of the website? k8v-x seems to be the closest match.

i dont think these drivers even came on the cd that came with the motherboard.

also do i need to uninstall sp2 to install these drivers?

No, the chipset drivers are all the same...in fact, you can get them from www.viaarena.com

You can install them after sp2....ideally, you should have installed them first
