I have a Dell Optiplex 745 that has XP. What I am trying to do is reformat it back to factory settings. I understand this will delete my downloads and such.

I have done this before on an old EMachine and it was never this complex.

I have the disk to reinstall XP and the Dell drivers. I inserted the Xp disk, rewrote over the C drive...there was something referring to partitions in there. I didnt delete any of those...wondering if I was supposed to delete b/c when I was finished it erased some stuff but many files like music, pics, etc. were still there.

What did I do wrong? And how do I do this the right way?

Thanks!!

Use the Dell CD to remove all partitions. It will then let you make new ones.
