I was given a HP Photosmart 7660 Printer and can't get it to install. I have the software...put it in and follow steps, it tells me to plug cable in from printer to PC..that does well and the product connection is successful but when it goes on and gets to part 3 of installation it stops at 12% and gives me the following error: Error_install_failure. Then I have to click ok and then it makes me go through the uninstall process. I've tried this 3 times with the CD that came with the printer and 3 times I've tried to install from the HP.com site (went to Software&Driver download, entered my product info to download drivers for it). I can't find any info on that specific error message in the manual or on hp site. Please help.

If someone knows what is wrong and can advise I'd appreciate it very much.

Here is something I found on google, please let me know if it works

Just to let everyone know about this post. I know it was a long time ago how
ever, I have had recent problems installing my photosmart 7660 on my Windows
XP Media Center PC which also happens to be HP. I believe the problem lyes
in the fact that I had to do a system restore due to overwhelming viruses.


Okay here is the fix straight from HP support which I can't believe friggin
worked.

1.Go through the onscreen instructions and continue installing the software.

2.At the point, where you get this error (Error_Install_Failure..-m webu) g
o to task manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL)
3. Select Photosmart Printer program and click end task.
4Now open the printers and faxes folder where the icon should be.
5.Right clickon the photosmart printer icon and go to properties.
Click on "print test page".

Believe it or not this fixes the problem and you don't have to go through a
mess of uninstalling and reinstalling anymore. I spent 4 days on this and i
t worked for me and I wish I had a thread that would have fixed it. Believe
me this is alot better than "Reinstalling your OS" for a printer. Never ta
ke advice from someone who tells you to just reinstall your OS, there is pro
bably a solution out there that will allow you to save time and save your sa
nity, just have to look.
