wifi printer problems

I have baught a wifi printer and i have to connect it to my wireless routet. Icant seem to find it wheh the printer scannes for it, even though i am using a wireless internet connection daily. i have read the book and it has said make sure the ssid is the same but i dont know how to do that for the printer and the router, can sme one help.
