My computer has had this problem for a better part of a year. It just shuts off but the on light remains on. It used to only happen very sporadically and rarely but the trouble has been increasing in time to where it happens almost all the time. The only way that this is fixed is unplugging the power cable and then plugging it back in.

Any information needed about my computer i will be happy to give you, but this problem is very annoying. Please help.

The last 2 HPs I had to fix for friends had basically the same problem... they had to unplug and plug in again to run... then the machines would crash again. Turned out both had bad power supplies. I recommend you get yourself a voltmeter an measure the +12v. It should be stable. If it's jumping all over the place, then more than likely the power supply is bad. Sorry can't help much more than that. Good luck!
