try down loading DVD shrink its free and works great but make sure you download the dvd decrypter too. this works better than dvd express copy(which I bought, and can't download all the extra) Shrink makes exact copy of the dvds.

Help
My problem with DVD Shrink is that after analysing the DVD and making a folder for the backup on my C drive when I press backup, I have a pop up saying DVD shrink needs to shut down due to error. This happens every time.
When I look inside the folder the folder is empty.

After viewing icucz post do I have to download the dvd decrypter also.Or do I have a compatibility problem.
I use XP Pro and have nero installed.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi All,

If your talking about copywrite material there are 2 very basic ,user friendly programs that work very well :tazz: -

DVD Decrypter : Allows you to put the DVD's files on the computer.
Check this out!! - FREE*
DVD2one : Shinks the VIDEO_TS Folder down to the size of 4.32 Gb so that you can get it back onto a standard sized DVD-R >>LOOK HERE<< - FREE*

Although, be careful ... cause I dont really think your spose to do that. ;)

But if you just want to backup non copywritten DVD's then one of the easiest programs to use is Alcohol 120% Have a look >>HERE<<

I very much agree with icuz. I have those three programs he is talking about, and dvdxcopy dows not work very well with NEC burners. These are the steps I take to burn a DVD:

1. Analyze with DVD Shrink.
2. Save as an .ISO file
3. Burn with DVDDecrypter
a. Go to mode - ISO - write
b. Click browse, and locate the .ISO file you saved in DVD Shrink.
c. Click your burner drive.
d. Click decrypt.
NOTE: parts "a" and "b" are only necessary if DVDDecrypter doe not automatically open after saving with DVD Shrink.

However, if above fails, try this:
1. Decrypt with DVD Decrypter
2. Extract files with ISOBuster (Also freeware here: http://isobuster.com/)
To do this:
a. Browse for the saved file with DVD Decrypter.
b. Right click on the file and click extract video files.
c. Open the extracted files in DVD Shrink to get the files to fit on the blank DVD.
d. Open up DVD Decrypter again and burn with DVD Decrypter.
i. Mode - iso - write
ii. Choose file from disk and burner drive.
iii. Click decrypt

Ryans, I think that this last method should work for you. Good luck!

Peace,
Jared

But that's the problem. Shrink creates a folder but when I press back up, it ejects the disc I want to back up with a pop up saying DVD shrink has encountered a problem and needs to close. When I view the folders it's created they are empty.

Hi ryans,

Instructions for using DVD Decrypter and DVD2one if for some reason DVD Shrink continues to fail.

1. Decrypt using DVD Decrypter
a) Put the Disc to be copied into the Drive of your choice (make sure the disc is clean to avoid read errors). Then choose that Drive in DVD Decrypter.
b) Click mode and tick File. Also, make sure that you set the RCE Protection to the correct area code eg. here in Australia we use Pal 4.
c) Choose a Destination for your Video_TS Folder then click the picture below of the DVD -> Hardrive. When the process is finished click OK and close DVD Decrypter.

2. Compress using DVD2one
(This a basic program that I have NEVER heard of errors occuring in and you get good pict qual after compressing. Also very easy to use.)
a) Click next at the splash/settings screen.
b) Select the source where you saved the Decrypted Video_TS Folder to.
c) Select the Destination to save the compressed Video_TS Folder to.
d) Make the settings as:
- DVD+-R(W)
- 4472 MB
- Full Disk
- Constant Ratio
Click NEXT.
e) Choose the Audio you'd like to keep (make sure you pick the first audio in that list) then click START. When the process is finished click OK and close DVD2one.

(NOTE* you may need around 14Gb of Free space to do this, depending on the size of the original DVD.)

3. NOW burn the compressed Video_TS Folder with Nero.
Goodluck :tazz:

Have you tried downloading the newest edition of DVDShrink?

Also if your not burning them to disk have a peek at RatDVD it seems to be coming along nicely.

After viewing icucz post do I have to download the dvd decrypter also.Or do I have a compatibility problem.
I use XP Pro and have nero installed.
Any help would be appreciated.

DVDShrink is very much compatible with XP and Nero, it even has a built in Nero burner. But it could be a different dvd burning program, I know that CopytoDVD installs a burning file that screws up DVDShrink. What DVD burners have you got on the computer?

I did have FABGOLD a trial version but have uninstalled that. It's Nero OEM that came with the DVD drive.

Thanks again for the help lads.
