Duo Core 6850 & quad core 6600

Im looking to buy either a Duo or Quad core processor. I was looking at a price list and there about the same price. in these 2 models is quad core still more powerful?

The main difference is Duo has two cores whereas Quad has four cores.

Most applications and games don't even use multiple cores but over the next few years support will increase.
The 6850 and the 6600 have very similar performance in games and applications, check out Toms Hardware CPU guide.
