Hi,
I've had several problems with my computer recently.
I was told to reinstall windows by Optima because they suspected a virus.I did reinstall windows but I'm still having problems.
Avast! picked up Win32:Renos-AE [Trj] and Win32:CTX.I thought that I had successfully removed ( I uninstalled Firefox at the same time as I was having major problems with it) but now I'm having problems downloading updates from avast!....when avast! will not download, windows messanger automatically signs on.I performed a Trendmicro Housecall scan and it came up infected....however I accidently hit the back button and the data was lost.I then scanned again and the results came up clean.
Any help would be muchly appreaciated...
Here is my HijackThis log:

If you did a clean Windows reinstall (and not a install on top of the current Windows), it should have been in a clean state. Do you still get any viruses detected now? Have you tried reinstalling Avast to see if it fixes the problem? I assume that's the only problem you have now with Avast not updating. Any other spyware/virus symptoms?

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
O19 - User stylesheet: (file missing)

Hi greynight17,

This morning when I turned my computer on and pointed my mouse at the taskbar items , the text had changed from looking like this (normal size text) to bold and at least three sizes bigger. All other text seems to be fine on my computer.Very annoying since I havent changed any settings in my computer. My computer is also slow and sometimes it takes several minutes to open a page properly. At times some graphics are missing.

I have tried uninstalling and repairing avast several times but it hasnt helped.I uninstalled MSN Messenger thinking that I had a virus there somewhere.

Avast updates fine as soon as I log into my computer but several hours later it tries to update again and thats when I receive the error message. This happens everyday and thats when MSN Messanger was signing in automatically.

I actually started recieving the virus alerts after I performed a clean Windows install.....no idea why.

I ran HijackThis and fixed the two entrys you asked me to.

Thanks for your so far.Is there something else you want me to do.

You can check and fix these in HijackThis to disable them from startup:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [!AVG Anti-Spyware] "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\avgas.exe" /minimized
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OpwareSE2] "C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE2.0\OpwareSE2.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OPSE reminder] "C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE2.0\EregEng\Ereg.exe" -r "C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE2.0\EregEng\ereg.ini"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSPM Startup] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\isuspm.exe" -startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSScheduler] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Corel Photo Downloader] C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Photo Album 6\MediaDetect.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

See if that speeds things up a bit.

Download ATF Cleaner at http://www.atribune..../click.php?id=1
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. Under Main choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use the Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use the Opera browser click 'Opera' at the top and choose 'Select All'
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

I see you have ran Panda ActiveScan before. Did it pick up anything? If unsure, run it again and post the results here.
