Hello Folks. Just wanted to thank you in advance before you even read my issue / problem! So thanks. [:

Mkay, so about two weeks ago, maybe more, I installed the "new" AIM update. All was well .. until aolsoftware.exe started acting a fool and running my cpu up to about 50%. "End Tasking" aolsoftware.exe did nothing but close AIM, and cause another program to use even more CPU, thus resulting in me having to make an 'illegal shut-down.' :)

So the basis of this post is to derive some sort of solution to fix AIM, and aolsoftware.exe in particular. I honestly have no clue as to how to fix it.
I've uninstalled AIM completely, deleted all AOL files, and restarted. Then re-downloaded AIM and attempted to use it again.

It turned out that it did the same thing as it had, except it took a few hours for that error to occur. SO honestly, I don't know what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Mike.

[P.S.] Although many may advise to delete AIM and drop it completely, thats almost a no-can-do because I need it to communicate with class mates and etc.

There are alternative 'multi-protocol' instant messaging clients compatible with AIM which would allow you to uninstall AIM yet still send and receive using your registered AIM credentials:

The most popular is 'Trillian': http://www.trillian.cc/learn/

But there are others, both online and offline ones:

Okay, but do you have any ideas as to what could be causing aolsoftware.exe to eat up so much CPU?
