Hi, I am new to this wireless world and I was wondering what is the difference between WiFi and a wireless internet card for a laptop. Do I need both? My new laptop has WiFi, what benefit would I get from having a wireless internet card? Or would I be stupid to get one of those?
Let me know what you all know.
thanks!!! :)

Wi-Fi and wireless are interchangeable terms but mean different things.

Wi-Fi is the "brand" given to anything that's wireless enabled/capable, whereas wireless can cover anything from a radio to mobile phones to cordless phones to computer wireless networks.

If a machine has Wi-Fi built-in, it means it has the ability to connect to a wireless network, if one is available. You don't need to buy anything else for the laptop, though you may, if you don't own it already, have to buy some wireless equipment for the laptop to connect to.

thank you! That helps! I know I need to get a wireless router so I can use my laptop with my home internet modem. That much I do know.
I appreciate the knowledge! :)
