Have some annoying popups that I'm having difficulty removing. Ran Symantec AV, McAfee ( online ), Windows Defender and Spybot.

Help would be most welcome.

Here is the logfile from V2.0.

Thank you,

Gerry

I've just finished disabling System Restore and deleting all previous restore points.

I ran AdAware which came out clean.

I ran some Symantec removal tools:

FixEzula.exe - terminated 1 process (???... I didn't tell me which process )
FixVundo.exe - nothing found

The reason I ran these two is because Symantec AV Auto-protect caught these two this morning. This was after I awoke to popups on my screen, but before I started doing all of these scans.

I'm currently running VundoFix.exe V6.7 found on the atribune.org website. Once this VundoFix is completed then I"m going to scan with SuperAntiSpyware and will post further results, but as of right now I'm still getting popups.

Cheers,

Gerry

So I ran VundoFix.exe. It found two files. When I hit 'remove Vundo' it rebooted the system which I didn't expect. So I didn't write down the file names and can't verify that they were removed. So I have to rerun the tool.

I did get an error upon reboot about urstr.dll though... never seen that before.

I'll keep at it.

After another reboot and running VundoFix as Administer on Vista it has detected that C:\Windows\RtHDVCpl.exe is in fact infencted.

However if I use the tool to remove Vundo and reboot/rerun that tool.. that file still exists. That file is part of the RealTek Audio drivers though I'm pretty sure. I can manually delete it I suppose and just reinstall the drivers at a later date.

Any recommendations from this point?

Cheers,

Gerry

I apologize for the rapid replies to my own post. Just updating while I go for my own record and for any it may help in the future.

So I went ahead and deleted RtHDVCpl.exe and checked it in HiJackThis and Fixed it.

VundoFix also located another file... however since I can't stretch the window all I can read is this:
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\hdart.inf_89b3.....
Whatever it is it's in that folder. So I just took ownership of that folder and deleted the entire thing. It was all RealTek stuff ( or virus stuff ) so I'm just going to download and reinstall the drivers and see what happens.

No idea if it's working/fixed at this point.

I get this error on boot:

error loading C:\Users\Gerry\AppData\Local\Temp\urstr.dll

specified module could not be found.

I just don't know what's trying to call it.

Here's an updated HiJackThis log.

I'm going to bed.

I unplugged my internet connection last night and ran some more scans.

SuperAntiSpyware dedected trhee instances of Vundo and one unrecognized trojan. It removed all of these.

I still get the error on bootup.

Help would be much appreciated.

Well I got rid of that error. I ran HiJackThis again and checked all of the Windows\System32\XXXXX.dll files.

After reboot I no longer see that error. I think it was RUNDLL.dll that was the culprit, but not sure.

Anyways, IE has been running for 3 hours with no popups and after reboot my error is no longer appearing.

So I guess for now I'm all set.

If anyone has any suggestions for further actions to make sure that the virus is gone completely please let me know... this has been a lonely thread :).

Cheers,

Gerry
