I keep getting a blue screen and windows shuts down saying performing memory dump. Its a new PC please help.

Do you have a ATI Radeon graphic card?. I used to get this memory dump errors all the time a while ago. This happened whenever i open a multimedia program like games or shockwave movies. I updated to latest ATI drivers and the problem vanished . But we have to make sure that it is the problem with the Graphic card. Anyway, give it a go.

cobhcf, you're right, usually these problems are due to a fault in the graphics card's drivers.

I would suggest that you first go to Windows Update, do a custom install, and add every update that you can find, particularly Driver Updates.

Then find out what sort of graphics card you have. If you don't know
- Check the specs of the system that you got when you purchased it
- Go to Start > Run > Type "dxdiag", then hit Enter. Click "Display" at the top, then look next to the Name.
Go to the manufacturer's website (Nvidia, ATI, Intel, or google it) and then download and install the latest drivers.

If that doesn't fix the problem, when you boot up again after the blue-screen error, Windows should ask you to send an error report. Allow it to (often people are trained to click "Don't Send"), and it will take you to MS Online Crash Analysis, where you should be able to provide us with more info.

Hi yes I have an ati card 128 radeon 9200 on board video but the error says smwdm.sys driver in the blue screen so I don't know if its a videocard problem. I am running windows xp pro sp2 plus all the latest updates.

that is a soundcard driver.

Visit the company that makes your soundcard and get the latest driver

even if you do, it would not hurt to reinstall it
