My master drive is a PATA Barracuda 100

I want to put in a 2nd drive - a Western Digital.

I've tried changing the jumper so that the Barracuda is the master but when I do, the computer won't recognize either the Barracuda or the Western Digital. And yes, the Western Digital's jumpers are set to slave.

I've gone into the bios when I have both connected and it won't recognize either. The only way the Barracuda will work is if it's by itself and set to the default.

Any help would be much appreciated!

when you set the barracuda as master (with the jumpers) are you plugging it into the end connector on the IDE cable? and then plugging the WD (jumpered as slave) into the center connector on the same cable?
