Hello,

I have been having serious problems trying to clean up my pc infected by Nail.exe.
I have no idea how I got this, but since then I'm getting so many pop-ups and often my "eTrust EZ Antivirus" detected many kinds of trojan such as Win32.SillyDl.LH, Win32.BettInet.R and others. Antivirus deletes those but they keep coming back and I can not get rid of "C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe".
I've tried everything I could do but didn't work.....

Okay, lets try to hit the rest of it

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer.
You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.


Open HijackThis, click the "Scan" button, and check the following entry:

c:\windows\system32\khjnte.exe

Close all windows except HijackThis and click the 'Fix Checked' button.


Locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

c:\windows\system32\khjnte.exe

Reboot and post a new log.

one last thing, which is just cosmetic more than anything else.

Open up HJT and open up the misc tools section. Go down and click on "delete an NT service" in the box enter System Startup Service.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

• IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.
