Cd rom drive not reading

I have a compaq c304nr laptop and the cd/dvd drive won't work or show up in mycomputer.
I think this can be fixed but need a little help

Try this:

Control Panel (classic view)->System->Hardware tab.
Click 'Device Manager'.
Click the plus sign next to 'DVD/CD-ROM Drives' and see if your cd-rom drive is listed.
If it's listed, right-click it and select 'Uninstall'.
Now reboot your laptop and Windows should re-detect the cd-rom drive and hopefully it will now be available to use.

I used a link to fix the registry and now it is work should i delete it anyway to make positive it works
