Task manager, regedit, hijackthis won't open

Hey,

When press Ctrl+Alt+Delete or Ctrl+Shift+Esc, task manager pops up for about 1 sec, then closes. The same thing happens with regedit, msconfig and HijackThis. Should i run HijackThis in safe mode, or won't that help? The update section of AVG won't work either, and it won't let me start it from windows, it'll only start when it's started on startup. Help please?
