Computer crash?

Help-

I had been having some issues with my system and was doing a scan with Kaspersky to see if I had a virus or anything else. After the scan ran, I clicked on one of the items it had shown to be a potential hazard and my computer shut down completely. I can not get in via safe mode or any other way.

When I press F8 while starting the system, I receive a bunch of different options for starting the system in either safe mode, last known good configuration, etc. The only option that goes someplace other than back to the system failure screen is "Disable automatic restart on system failure". When I choose this option, I get a blue screen with the following message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or back up utilities Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Like I said, every time I try to start the computer, it geves me the option to start in safe mode, but that does not work, then it attempts to reboot every 30 seconds. Unless there is a way to do the checks it is recommending, I have no way to get into the system.

I am sending this message from a different computer until I can get the other computer working.

A problem occurred within NTFS.SYS, the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS file system drives. There may be a physical problem with the disk, or an Interrupt Request Packet (IRP) may be corrupted. Other common causes include heavy hard drive fragmentation, heavy file I/O, problems with some types of drive-mirroring software, or some antivirus software. I suggest running ChkDsk or ScanDisk as a first step; then disable all file system filters such as virus scanners, firewall software, or backup utilities. Check the file properties of NTFS.SYS to ensure it matches the current OS or SP version. Update all disk, tape backup, CD-ROM, or removable device drivers to the most current versions.

Hope this helps. I would run chkdsk to see if its the HD. You will probably need to use the recovery console( which most people never install on their computers) to get to where you can run chkdsk.

I don't have the windows setup floppy disks or the windows cd-rom, is there a way to download on another computer then copy to a cd or a USB/

No guarantees but you can try this.

I have not used this yet, but i have kept it in mind if i did run across a computer that i could not get a XP cd to work in.

You can download the exe file that will make a 6 floppy disk set of XP boot floppies.

This will not help you if you do not have a floppy drive on the computer. It might be easier to find a XP CD and install XP over itself.

The basic steps for performing a repair are as follows:

1. Boot your computer using the Windows XP CD.
2. When prompted press Enter to install Windows XP.
3. After pressing F8 to accept the End-Use License Agreement, setup should detect your existing Windows installation.
4. Press R to begin the recovery process.
5. Setup will copy the necessary files to your hard drive and then reboot.
6. Do not press any key to boot from the CD-ROM this time. Instead let setup continue.

After the repair is complete, be sure to reinstall the latest service packs and updates since they will have been removed during the repair process.

If you don't have a Windows XP CD you can download a bootable ISO image of the Recovery Console from here (still available as of 12/08/2007):

Note: You create a CD from the iso image, you don't burn the iso image to cd. If you don't have decent burner software, you can use DeepBurner. It supports iso images.
