dell c610 laptop - boots but touchpad, buttons no response

i am successful in booting up and my desktop shows up on my Dell C610 laptop but my touchpad( when i tap it), buttons and keys do not respond. I am able to move my cursor using my touchpad but when i tap it i cannot get it to respond. I also cannot get my tool bar to respond, the icons won't highlight nor am i able to bring up my start menu to go to settings, control panel etc.
Any ideas?
