Help! Keyboard is locked up

Hi. Suddenly my keyboard is just beeping at me no matter what key I hit. I was working on it this morning fine, went out for lunch, came back to this. I have no idea what could have happened while I was away. No one is here to have messed with it. I've unplugged it, plugged it back in to no avail. I also restarted the PC and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Never mind. I remembered something about holding down the shift key, and it worked. I held it down for about 15 seconds, something clicked, and voila ... everything was working fine. Thanks anyway.
