I have an hp 1040i and 840i, the 1040 is drive E, and 840 is drive F.

When I put in a DVR+RW, it refuses to see that its blank.

Also when I select files to be written it always wants to default to the 840, and I want it to default to the 1040.

I am useing the basic(and free) media player to try and burn some videos to the DVR+RW, and it is updated to the latest version.

So heres my questions,

1. How to I change the default drive for the basic windows burnning to drive E and not F. (ie when you select some songs from your files and right click and it says send to, it always says E and I want it to say F)

2. How do I get the stupid thing to see that they are blank DVD+RW's??

3. Is there a better FREE dvd/cd burning software??

Thanks ahead of time for any assistance you can offer :)

My answers are in BOLD.

1. How to I change the default drive for the basic windows burnning to drive E and not F. (ie when you select some songs from your files and right click and it says send to, it always says E and I want it to say F)

  • Open Windows Explorer.
  • Navigate to C:\Documents And Settings\<your username>\SendTo
  • Right click on the folder, and select New > Shortcut
  • Type in E:\ in the box.
  • Now, try right-clicking the file you want to be sent to your CD and see if it works.

2. How do I get the stupid thing to see that they are blank DVD+RW's??

Your drive may not be compatible with DVD+RW's. Please check.

3. Is there a better FREE dvd/cd burning software??

Look here:

http://cdburnerxp.se/

It's freeware, though donations are encouraged.

I hope this answers all of your questions.

well thanks... for the reply.

I was able to change the drive(or actually add another), The drive is compatable with dvd+rw... its what I have always used :)

However the last one... well I was able to DL it but it keeps crashing whenever I try to load it... so its not as good as one would think... lol

Thanks anyway.... have a good one

No problems. I'm glad to hear your problems are solved.

Anyway, I don't use burners, so I listen to recommendations and just recommend it to the next person who needs it . :)
